Many players will approach the Duelist by searching for one powerful attack, but that misses the class's central decision: which action creates the best next opening. Its stance system rewards timing, target selection, and resource discipline, so early spending on Path of Exile 2 Currency should support a complete rotation rather than a single impressive hit. With the Duelist planned for the Path of Exile 2 1.0 full release on December 11 and previewed through the Forbidden Rites event, this is a good time to examine how the class may fit different playstyles.

Read the Stance Flow

Ready Stance is the foundation. Several Duelist skills can place the character into this preparation state, creating a choice between immediate damage and a stronger follow-up. The practical sequence is not simply "attack until something dies." It is to initiate, enter Ready Stance, identify the target, and then convert that opening with either a Sand or Blood interaction.

That distinction matters most when enemies have different levels of durability. A normal pack may not justify a long setup, while a Rare Monster or boss can make the preparation worthwhile. Players who repeatedly activate every part of the rotation against weak targets will lose movement speed and create unnecessary exposure in melee range.

Choose Sand or Blood

Sand Stance, reached through the Ready Stance system, enables Sand Scour. The skill sends large swirling sand discs through enemies, making it the more natural choice for area pressure and map movement. Blood Stance comes through Bloodied Blade. Used with the Default Attack, it creates a blood wave that causes enemies to bleed, while Perforate can produce smaller blood novas through the same interaction.

These options suggest different build priorities rather than a single correct setup.

- Sand Stance suits players who value quick pack clearing and simple movement between groups.

- Blood Stance suits players who prefer sustained physical pressure and close-range bleeding.

- A mixed rotation can reserve Sand Scour for packs and Perforate for sturdier targets.

- Neither approach should be judged only by its largest individual damage event.

Sand has a clear efficiency advantage when one cast clears a group, but Blood may offer better value when an enemy survives long enough for repeated physical pressure. The right choice depends on how often each stance actually converts into useful damage.

Plan Each Progression Stage

During the early game, prioritize learning the shortest reliable sequence. Enter Ready Stance, test whether Sand Scour clears the group, and stop when the pack is defeated. Save the more involved Perforate sequence for targets that survive the opening attack. This keeps movement efficient and prevents the class from feeling slower than it needs to be.

Use the simplest stance transition that clears ordinary enemies.
Reserve stronger Perforate sequences for Rare Monsters and bosses.
Compare attack speed, base damage, range, and stance interaction before replacing a weapon.
Save currency for upgrades that improve the entire rotation instead of one isolated skill.

In the mid-game, measure damage uptime rather than examining a single large hit. A slower weapon with larger attacks may support burst-focused Perforate play, while a faster weapon can better support repeated attacks and bleed application. In the late game, the best setup will likely be the one that maintains useful stance transitions while a boss remains in range, not necessarily the one with the most demanding sequence.

Know the Matchup

For PVE, Sand-oriented play has a strong practical case because clearing space quickly reduces the time spent exposed to enemy attacks. Blood-oriented play becomes more appealing when enemies survive the first exchange and reward sustained pressure. Melee positioning remains the main limitation: a lengthy sequence has little value if the target moves away before the final action connects.

PVP is a less certain destination because the confirmed information focuses on the Duelist's general combat design rather than player-versus-player tuning. Ready Stance could reward prediction and punish careless approaches, but players should avoid treating the PVE rotation as automatically suitable for competitive encounters. Test shorter transitions and keep enough flexibility to react instead of committing to every available step.

Common mistakes are easy to identify.

- Do not spend the full setup on an enemy that would already fall to the first attack.

- Do not select a weapon from damage alone when its speed or range disrupts the stance flow.

- Do not spend all available currency chasing a short-term hit increase before the rotation feels consistent.

- Do not assume Sand and Blood must be separated if a mixed approach solves both mapping and tougher targets.

The Duelist's long-term value will come from making better decisions between stances, not from repeating one attack. Players comparing options through a poe 2 trade site should keep that principle in mind, because an upgrade that improves timing, uptime, and target coverage may serve the build longer than a larger number on a single skill.
